USPS Proceeds with Major Gas Vehicle Purchase

Only acquiring 10% electric vehicles despite the urging from president’s administration.

The U.S. Postal Service is going ahead with its plan to purchase internal combustion vehicles to replace the majority of its fleet. In an attempt to modernize, USPS selected a manufacturer last year to produce at least 50,000 vehicles. The Environmental Protection Agency and the White House Council on Environmental Quality had urged the agency to increase the percentage of electric vehicles it would procure.

“The process needs to keep moving forward,” said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. He stated USPS would acquire more electric vehicles as internal or external funding sources become available. “The men and women of the U.S. Postal Service have waited long enough for safer, cleaner vehicles to fulfill on our universal service obligation to deliver to 161 million addresses in all climates and topographies six days per-week.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the postmaster general as he weighs the environmental needs against the delivery obligations of his agency.
  • For Administrator Regan as he heads the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • For Council on Environmental Quality Chair Mallory as she promotes the president’s climate and energy goals.
